Twas The Week Before Christmas, Finally Done!

December 21, 2008

Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the house
Projects waited to be finished by one Momma Mouse!
Our stockings are hung by our chimney with flair,
We're hoping dear Santa will soon hurry there.
The children are busy cleaning under their beds,
While visions of dancing swirl around in their heads.
And Momma in her "Ice Cast" and Dad in his cap,
Are hoping to settle in for a long winter's nap!

When out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
We spring from our bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the pantry Mom flys like a flash,
Tore open the cupboards, and found the flour stash.
The moon shows the puddles of fresh fallen rain,
To empty the trash for Dad is a pain!
When what to our wondering eyes should appear,
A little small Beastie in her jammies so dear.

With her rhino in hand, so stuffed and quite limp,
She's really quite glad it isn't a chimp!
More rapid than email this little Beast claimed
As she dialed phone numbers, and shouted their names!
Now Caleb, and Holly, and sweet Baby Jack,
On Britni, and Cooper, One Cymbre and Dad.
To Shyla and Russell, and friends we adore
We rush to send presents, we rush out the door!

As cookies lay cooling, the children walk by
But Momma is watching with her bright eagle eye!
So out of the kitchen, the little girls go,
With some TV to watch, and some raw cookie dough!
And then in a twinkling, they hear from outside
Daddy's home from his office, in his car he did ride!
Mom's cleaning the kitchen, and was turning around,
Then suddenly through the backdoor Daddy did bound!

The cards on the table with needs to address,
Just add to this Momma Mouses' pre-Christmas stress!
A bundle of packages just waiting for wrap,
Remind Momma Mouse, it's time for a nap!
The lights how they twinkle, the ribbons how merry!
Kids cheeks are like roses, with noses like cherries!
Dad's droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin isn't quite white as snow!

The Christmas jars wait for us to deliver,
Watch out, that back gate just might give you a sliver!
The tree is all up, and yes, decorated
Dad thinks this holiday could be well overrated!
Some gifts are all wrapped, and placed under the tree
Cooper sifts and sorts thru them on her pinching spree!
A wink of Mom's eye, and a twist of her head
Soon lets Dad know, he has nothing to dread!

She speaks not a word, but goes straight to her work,
And finishes the baking, then turns with a jerk!
And laying her scissors aside of her nose,
Back to the sewing machine, our tired Mom goes!
She springs to her chair, and sews up a storm,
To Dad who is sleeping, Mom's sewing's the norm!
But we hear Dad exclaim, as he lays down his head,
It's late all you kids, now just go to BED!

DONE FINALLY!

A Funny Cooper Story!

December 11, 2008

OK, here's a really funny story about Cooper!

We were finishing up making some of our peanut butter bars in jars for friends and church people and teachers tonight. We had flour, sugar, chocolate chips, and brown sugar all over the kitchen. We put all the left overs in bags to use when I buy some more jars, and Cooper was finishing wiping off the counters. She went to wash out the sink, and started to pick up the little sprayer thing. Just how she picked it up, she sprayed herself right in the face!! It was so funny, she got this dumb look on her face, I got wet standing across the kitchen writing on the labels for the jars. Cooper just started laughing, then Cymbre was laughing really hard, and I could just picture Shyla rolling on the floor laughing so hard and Russell and Caleb just harrassing her and laughing. IT WAS REALLY FUNNY!!

Snow In Houston

December 10, 2008

Yes, it's snowing in Houston! Just as I went to pick up Cymbre from school it started to snow. It has stopped for now, but they say we could get more tonight.....hopefully not to much since this place doesn't know what a snow plow is. And where is that scrapper for the van?

Just push the play button to view the video.

Cymbre's Bed In The Kitchen!

December 10, 2008

For the past two nights, Cymbre and Mom have slept on the kitchen floor in her house....she has bronchitis AGAIN, and spends the evening and night coughing CONSTANTLY!! So, I built a steam tent out of bed sheets and beach towels. Dad rigged up the vaporizer on the floor by the bar stools which are holding the sheets taller than the table. Then she gets in her bean bag chair, propped up with pillows. I put two couch cushions just outside the sheets, and stick my head into the tent to snuggle her. I lay there with my ice pack on my foot, and propped on pillows and rub her chest or arm to help her relax and get to sleep.....then I wake up at some point and move to the couch. I told Dr. Ermac, I really don't like sleeping on the kitchen floor, so he better get her fixed.

An architectual marvel, if I do say so myself!

I think the flooring leaves a bit to be desired though, it isn't very soft for sleeping.

The sicky herself.

A morning used look!
Snow in Houston! Read on.

Gingerbread Houses

December 10, 2008

We made these Gingerbread Houses for Family Home Evening this week.....then we signed up at the bakery to learn how you're really supposed to do it. We are waiting for Sissy to get here to go to class with us. Then we should have a really fancy one!

Cooper's finished house

Cymbre's finished house.

Mom does the frosting.

A work in progress.

First steps, get the house to stand up.
Now on to Cymbre's bed in the kitchen.

Cooper's Tie Tying Lesson

December 10, 2008

If you really want to confuse Dad, just ask him to teach you how to tie a tie. He tried from behind, but he couldn't do it, and now he says she needs to talk to Caleb because Caleb ties a full windsor knot, and Dad doesn't. Guess she needs her big brother!

Cooper needs to learn to tie a tie because all the football players have to wear them on game days, and their Dad's tie them for them before they go to school. They are dumb enough to totally untie them for PE, and then they go around looking for girls who know how to tie them. Cooper isn't dumb, she knows the entire team, so she learned how to tie a tie. Now the Assistant Principal man won't have to do all of them this week!

It would be nice if she paid attention though...go thru here, go around, pull thru...

Twist it just so, pull it through, make a funny face....

Cooper thinks she understands....

Just a couple more twists...

VICTORY!!

Setting Up Christmas

December 10, 2008

My new centerpiece this year....it sits on the kitchen table on the lazy susan.

All the Christmas stuff to set up.

Decorating the tree....this was all Britni's idea. She wanted to set up the Nativity set, which led to all kinds of other things getting set up. She'll be here to take it down right after Christmas too.

Starting the tree....Dad's least favorite job....at least it's a prelit tree. He doesn't wrestle lights anymore!
More pics on the next blog.

Mom's Meanderings!

November 16, 2008

Today for family home evening, we are cleaning out the baby cradle! That means that Dad is getting the Christmas wrapping paper out of the garage, and we are wrapping all the home made and purchased presents that have to be mailed! Some of them have been living in the baby cradle for months. Cooper even used the things she made for her goals at young womens.

Then the next thing will be to get them in the mail.....that's a big job, and it always means standing in line. I want to mail them the cheap rate this year, so we are going to do it sooner than later.

ALSO: For those who haven't called with your hip measurements, you are VERY close to not getting pajama pants....they need to be in the boxes we are getting in the mail.

Dad is finally home for a while. He's been gone most of the last three weeks. I'm glad he is back. He gets to do the dance run for several days this week while I finish some Christmas things.

Uncle Russell called today. He isn't feeling well, has a cold. So does Owen. It was nice to chat for a few minutes with him.

Caleb: In the Daily Variety magazine they had an article about making a Transformers ride at Disneyland in the next two years. Just thought you would like to know.

Well, I am going to take my cashews and M & M's and find something to get done.

Everyone have a great week, and do something nice for someone else. Carry some groceries for an old lady, help someone clean up a mess, call your mother, take a cookie to someone who is lonely, buy a brownie for your favorite teacher, call your mother, email your dad.

Love you.

Misc. Stuff

November 12, 2008

We have the Saturn back, and it looks ok to me.....Dad will look at it when he comes back from the SEG Convention in Las Vegas.

We also got the dryer fixed...something about drum roller balls seizing up. The guy was more interested in lecturing me about emptying the lint trap than fixing the dryer. So there was two loads of lint in it. I empty it before I start a load, not when I finish a load....and who died and made him the lint God anyway? At 2:30 am on Tuesday, I was not interested in getting the lint out, just getting the clothes dried in case the repairman left my dryer in pieces.

It's been pouring rain ever since Dad left, and I figured out how to turn off the sprinklers so we didn't look like fools and water the lawn in the pouring rain. You know how Dad has a canary about that.

I even remembered to collect and put the trash out....guess you could say I am batting a thousand this week so far.

Today, Cooper is staying after school for an 8th grade party, and Cymbre is going to see Dr. Ermac about her allergies. She has just been miserable, and I think we need to change her medicine. I gave her some of Cooper's for the last two nights, and they seem to make it better for her, so I am going to ask Dr. Ermac for perscriptions for Cymbre for the same medicine.

I have been working constantly on some Christmas presents that I am making, and yesterday, I dug out the material for millions of pairs of PJ pants. I think this tradition definitely has to go....everyone is wanting more than one pair. The little girls are especially bad, they just think they need pj pants out of every piece of cute material they see.....the problem is they need them too. We'll see how many my foot survives making.

Got two costumes mostly done, so there are just three left. Have to draw the patterns, so that will take some time. I think I will get Britni to help me get the tulle cut when she comes for Thanksgiving.

We are so looking forward to having Britni home....the little girls are wanting to go places with her, and keep the traditions alive they have formed when she comes to town. Never know, we may even manage an early morning after Thanksgiving shopping trip to Kohls. We seem to like that place about 4 am. They always have something we want for someone for Christmas. Last year, it was the earphones for Russell.

Britni will also probably help me get out the Christmas china we use from Thanksgiving to Christmas. The little ones always like the Christmas dishes. Thank goodness, I had the forethought to bring them from England. Spode china here is too expensive!

Well, must get busy making the rhinestone choker for Cooper's tap costume, and sewing the lace on Cymbre's bobby socks. Then on to the doctor, dinner, dance....homework, baths, bed, with ice on the old foot. Dad will call sometime in there....next time I AM GOING with him.

Have a good day. Call someone you haven't talked to in a long time. Little sisters miss you.

Costume Photos

November 9, 2008

This is the infamous Mark Goodman's signature on Cooper's tap shoes! Big Stuff around here!

This is Cymbre's Fun, Fun, Fun Costume. She is dancing to the Beach Boys Song. It's minus her bobby sock though.

More of Cymbre from the front. I made this one from scratch.

This is the back of Cooper's Come Dance With Me tap solo.

This is the front in the ever present pose! We just bought the pieces and dolled them up. Not bad I say.

Dad is at the airport waiting for his plane to Las Vegas. It is delayed, as usual....that's not a good sign considering this is going to be a very long week.
Well, enjoy the photos, and leave a comment. The girls are interested in how you like them.
Love you.

Drama In The Sewing Room

November 8, 2008

OK, well I went in to clean up some of the mess in the sewing room, and you would not believe the drama!

I got the box out to put the extra costume stuff back in, and find some more stuff for another costume, and I had MUTINY on my hands! I guess I mistakenly bought some material that is scared of the dark, and so the remains of Cymbre's poodle skirt did not want to get back in the box! I set it down to make some space in the box, and the stuff just fell off the pile and came all unfolded. What a mess, three colors of felt all over....that's when the tulle told me that felt is scard of the dark! Then the feathers for Cooper's Stand Out hat didn't want to get smashed into the box either. Give me a break....who ever heard of feathers raising a ruckus! I mean really, there are two of them, so they each have a friend. Then I find out from the netting that the tulle thinks the netting is too scratchy. WHAT? Tulle isn't so unscratchy itself. While wrestling every bit of tulle and tulle ruffling back into the box, I discovered a spool of thread that has decided to unravel. Now if a spool of thread is going to go crazy and unravel everywhere, the least it could do it contain itself to one section of the box....not this one. This one decided to get all tangled up in the nylon mesh, Christmas balls, earrings, and buttons. Does anyone know a good thread psychiatrist? This spool has really lost it's mind! Rumor also has it that measuring tape is just about at his wits end. He is losing the little metal clasp on his end, and he feels like he is losing his clothes. I tried to glue the thing back on him, but he complained that the glue was to sticky. DUH!! AND, those straight pins must be having some kind of party. I found them all over the room. They must be becoming teen-age straight pins because I found them in pairs over under the yarn sack. Can you imagine my shock? It seems like just yesterday I bought those babies. I saved the cording just in time....those scissors were about to cut it into a zillion pieces. I've been told just recently by the bias tape, that scissors and cording don't get along very well when left alone for more than a moment. And, the zipper seems to be having dental problems. It's losing some of his teeth. Maybe I can get some dentures made for it. The poor iron is so distraught with so much work this week, she can be seen just blowing off steam! I had to move the chiffon so she didn't melt it. And the ironing board cover asked if I could give her a bath....seems she doesn't like the stains she is developing after such a bunch of ironing of costume parts this week. She doesn't like the starch buildup either. Is anyone happy in the sewing room? Pinking shears have gone on vacation, and all my sources are claiming they don't know where she went or when she will return. I hope it's soon, I may need her for something. My new ruffler seems to be the only one happy at the moment....he is quite content in his special spot in the third drawer down, right next to the walking foot. Maybe they can become best friends and make something wonderful together! I also have some pattern pieces that are playing hide and seek...well, I gave up the game and put the envelopes away in the drawer anyway. When those pieces decide to show themselves again, I'll grab them before they know what hit them, and into those envelopes they go. I secretly think that once you let patterns loose, there is no returning them to their proper envelopes! They seem to moan and scream if you fold them the wrong way, but they don't fit into the envelope if you don't fold them all up small. I still think when I pass the door of the room I can hear whimpers coming from the costume box and the pattern drawer. I could just fix the whole bunch of them, and shut the door. With the blinds drawn, it is so dark in there....it would just serve everyone right.

Well, enough of this foolishness for tonight.

Cymbre is still suffering quite a bit with her back injury. Say your prayers that she will feel better....I don't need another trip to the Urgent Care place this week.

Dad leaves for the SEG convention in Las Vegas this Sunday and returns on Friday. Guess we will see what happens this week.

I have to deal with the body shop and the rental car place for the Saturn this week.....that should be interesting. They say the Saturn is fixed, but they called Dad's office instead of home, and he was out of town....should be interesting when I go on Monday to pick the car up.

Well, I am going to fold some material I washed, and then take my bath.

I will try to post photos of the girls costumes tomorrow.

Everyone do something nice for someone this week....

Love you.

You can tell Dad Is Out Of Town

November 6, 2008

Tonight after getting some things together for the meetinghouse library, going to the school book fair, and doing the dance run, and finally taking Cymbre to the Urgent Care center.....we are home again.

Cymbre has a middle and lower back sprain after her fall last Saturday in her solo practice. No PE or dance for another week at least....I am beginning to think she is not meant to dance this solo this year.....she just keeps getting hurt. I am going to make Guy give her a blessing when he gets home tomorrow.

Guy is in Santa Fe, and will return home tomorrow....he leaves for Las Vegas on Sunday.....the car is still in the shop getting fixed from the accident.

Had to run to Walmart tonight late and get a rolling backpack for Cymbre...she can't lift more than 10 lbs and so that means no backpack. Found a rolling backpack suitcase thing, so I guess we will use that and I am going to talk to her teachers in the morning. The PE coach is going to think we have it in for him.

At least Cooper is feeling better from the accident, no if I can just keep her healthy.

Needless to say, my foot is swollen up like a balloon tonight.....hopefully by morning it will go down some....if not, I'll just spend the day on ice!

Got the girls tap solo costumes done!!! Took pictures, but they are still in the camera....maybe I can find a minute to upload them tomorrow.

Well, I am going to go take a quick shower and get off this foot....no sense trying to sleep for another couple of hours since Dad isn't here...I will lay in the bed and work on a Christmas present I am making.

Remember to say thank you to someone who has done something for you this week, and do something nice for someone else. Maybe they will say thank you in return.

Musings Of The Halloween Candy Caldron!

October 30, 2008

I was filling up the Halloween Candy Cauldron tonight, and just stopped to think what might be going on deep down inside.

I put M & M's, some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and a mixture of Hersheys miniature candy bars.

Can't you just picture those Snicker's bars huddling in the bottom "snickering" at all the other candy's? I mean, who knows what Snicker's Bars could get up to in the bottom of that deep cauldron? How does a Snicker's Bar sound when it snickers? Do you suppose it leaks out just a bit of that caramel stuff? Maybe the peanuts tickle it's tummy, and that's what starts all the snickering. Maybe they are snickering because someone's wrapper is coming undone. Maybe they pulled a good joke on the Mr. Goodbars.

Those M & M's could really get into mischief too.....they could really pull off some good stuff and never get blamed for it. I mean those blue guys, there's always so many of them. How would you know who to blame for sitting on and smashing all the Twix Bars? And the red guys, they are constantly blushing, so how would you know if they were guilty of eating the Hershey Bars or not? Those green guys, they are constantly envious of everyone, so they are probably trying to do away with the Milky Way bars. And speaking of Milky Ways, isn't that up in the sky somewhere? Those orange M & M's are really the only ones that fit the holiday season this time of year....unless of course, you bought those goulish ones that Shyla bought. That leaves the brown ones, and I think those are probably the most troublesome as when you drop them they seem to roll away for their own adventures. If one of those little guys gets loose in the cauldron, we might have a real dramatic situation on our hands tomorrow night.

I really don't think the Reese's Cups like those M & M's to start with, as I've seen them avoid each other.....the Reese's cups like to stay at the top of the pile...the Hershey bars report that the Reese's cups have delicate skin and don't want to take the chance of being even the slightest bit squashed. Those M & M guy's can weasle ther way most anywhere ( on a side note, they like the under cushion of the couch!), and in the cauldron on Halloween night, they just might end up with Frankenstein, or worse yet, some Star Wars creature. (No, I don't take comments from the Galactic gallery!) Somehow, I think the M & M's don't fit the image of Frankenstein.

Who knows what little goblins will choose for their goody bags tomorrow night, but I bet it won't be the Hershey's Dark Chocolate bars....those are so mysterious and dark. Perfect for Halloween if you ask me....I mean, who wants a bright and cheery Skittle when you can have a dark Hershey bar? Fits the season.....

Those little packages of Smarties are a bit smug if anyone asks my opinion....I mean really, has anyone seen even one Smartie graduate from High School? What make's them so smart anyway?

I like those Butterfinger bars, they seem to always be falling all over everyone. Guess you could say, they really have a bunch of 'Butter Fingers".

My favorite ones are the miniature Cherry Mash bars. They look like little piles of who knows what, but they could really do a number with the "Monster Mash".

I have held a bag of Crunch bars back just in case we have a candy situation and need some help in a "Crunch"!

Enough of this foolishness tonight. Must get my foot on ice.

Everyone be nice to the little goblins, and don't eat all the candy.

Love you.

Misc. Musings

October 29, 2008

Well, Dad is on an airplane to Denver. He will be back on Friday....who can guess what will happen while he is gone! Something ALWAYS does.

Cooper will be student teaching at dance tonight because I simply can't get her to YW and Cymbre to dance at the same time. They are too far apart to go early to one and late to another.

Cool here this morning, the girls are wearing sweatshirts to the bus stop.

Where are all you guys when we have cupcakes left over from the party that need eating? We have been giving them away to get them eaten before they are stale.

Got the lime green neon leotard for Cooper's tap solo, and the briefs for Cymbre's tap solo yesterday. I am making progress, but need some serious sewing machine time. If my foot would just cooperate. Although, I did wear my tennis shoe again yesterday.

Here's the bus....bye.
