Just foolin' Around

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Gosh I finally got this thing to let me in to make a new post. I have been fighting with the sign in process for half an hour. I finally went and reset everything, and then it let me in. Caleb, I did everything the same, so you should be able to sign in and fix that stuff for me.

Dad is in Switzerland for the next few days, only he is out in the mountains on some field job. Can't reach him, so hopefully, things won't go wrong.

I have been working that poor old sewing machine for a couple of days now. It's had some complaints, and broke a couple of needles in protest, but we managed to make bean bag chairs for the dance room. Today I finished some little curtains to cover the front of the bookcase. Now it just doesn't look so messy, even though the girls have to straighten it up every Saturday. Tomorrow, when we don't have to be at school for things, we are working on the curtains for the windows. Watch out! Dad might say we are moving!!! NOT!!

Thankfully, the hurricane didn't come to Houston! I was not looking forward to that with Dad being out of the country. Got some rain today, but nothing to big.

Have any of you every comtemplated why the window sill manages to get so much dust when you dust them off every Saturday? I am getting just a little bit tired of the dust on the family room windowsills....for the life of me I just can't imagine where it comes from. You would think we were a family of dustballs! Those sills manage to grab more dust than the mantle, which is 3 times as wide. Just how does that work?

And just how does the sealed door on the front of the fireplace manage to get dirty on the inside when we never light the fire? I think I have dust gremlins attacking the place at night. The problem is, most nights I spend some time on the couch asleep, so when are they coming. Maybe I will make Dad sleep on the couch when he snores for a night or two and then he can catch them!

Does anyone know what a dust gremlin looks like, just so I can tell Dad what he is looking for in his sleep?

AND: why do dead bugs always breathe their last breath and die right next to the baseboards where the vacumn doesn't get them? Where are the bug laws that say that is permissible? And how do we go about changing it? I think bugs who have eaten bug spray should be required to let themselves outside to do the dying bit! Haven't they ever heard that they should go find water?

Does anyone know where bobby pins go to hide? I have bought at least a million bobby pins over the years, but when we need them, they are not in the drawer where they are supposed to be. They are not under the couch, in the drawer with the hairbrushes, or even under the bed. They don't hide in great abundance in dance bags, nor are they on the bathroom floor. Just where do they go, and how do they walk away given that I have never seen a bobby pin with legs. Maybe someone is smuggling them, kidnapping them to a far away place! Maybe I need to call the FBI! (Find Bobbypin Investigators) Maybe they are going on dates with the pony tail holders that also seem to disappear just when you need them.

One puzzling question for this week: why do hairbrushes collect lint down between the bristles? You would think that something you use everyday would not have time to collect lint. It's not as though it is a dryer vent! And does this mean that my hair is full of lint--I don't see any in the mirror each morning. So does that mean that my hair grows lint during the day? And how come Dad's comb doesn't appear to have lint? Is his hair better than mine? I know it's thinner. So does that mean that I have fat hair, and does fat hair grow lint? Is there such a thing as fat hair? I've heard of big hair, but not fat hair.

Well, before the men in white coats show up at the door (no I am not crazy, but I can't vouch for my kids!) I better post this and get the little girls ready for bed.

Have a great day....remember who you are!

Love you.

The Heat Wave Continues

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

The heat wave continues to try to melt our bodies every time we even think about going out the door.

Last night at the studio we had to cancel the evening classes in the big dance room because the air conditioner went out. WHAT A MESS!! It was 96 degress in that room. The office wasn't much cooler.

I finally left the studio at 9:30 pm with the air conditioner man on the roof, and Ginny at the restaurant down the strip from the studio. She came back at 10:30 and the man was still there.

Today it appears to be cooling the studio, but we will see when we get 100 bodies inside tonight.

We finally have the wedding sorted and put away, and boxes ready to mail to Shyla and Britni.

Now my focus will turn to sewing....I am going to make the bean bag chairs and curtains for the upstairs dance studio, and then go on to costuming for the Mary Poppins Production for Ginny.

Dad is getting ready to leave town for a couple of weeks, and school starts here on the 27th.

The little girls are going to a dance camp for the next three days this week, so that will give them something to do besides dance upstairs.

My major problem this week is deciding how to cram a million dance costumes into a small closet. Dad cleaned out the storage unit, so everything is home again. It wouldn't be to bad, but the feathers are screaming that they are getting squished, and the leotards do not want to be by the hip hop costumes. Heaven knows the tights will get all up in arms if they have to be in the box with the hats, so as you can see, I have a "Situation".

I want to contain those dumb feathers, otherwise they shed all over the place. Have you ever tried to vacumn up feathers. If a ceiling fan is going, there is just no hope. And with the heat, we don't turn the fans off.

The hats are another issue. They really should be kept in their hat boxes, but we need the boxes for other hats this year. Yes, I am too cheap to buy other hat boxes!

The hip hop outfits seem to think it is hilarious to just fall off the hangers, so I keep finding them all over the floor. I tried clothes pins, but they seem to pop those off too!

And the dance shoes, they just have the run of the house!! I mean, just how many pairs can four feet wear? And how come we have to have several colors of the same kind of shoe? What is the sense in all of this?

The worst culprit in the costume closet are the fishnet tights. Those are so angry at the prospect that they might have to have the rhinestones peeled off and another color glued on. I never realized that something so full of holes could create such a ruckus! At $30 a pair, I am going to try to reuse them. That should be interesting! If they don't behave, I am going to put them on those swimming noodle things, and just stand them in the corner for a good long time.

At least, the make up and jewelry that is still stored in the sewing room are behaving. At least I think they are, who knows what they could get up to in the middle of the night. Maybe while Dad is out of town, I will stay up and do some surveillance to see what really goes on in that room in the dark with the door shut.

Maybe I could enlist the help of my new serger as a spy, or even the floor lamp. It could suddenly turn on, and then the serger could sew things together that were misbehaving! Sounds like a plan to me. As long as the bean bag chair stuffing balls don't get loose, we should all be ok.

I have just returned from wrestling the cleaning rags into the dryer! Those rags have a mind of their own most days, and today they are saying it's too hot outside to be inside the dryer in the house! Give me a break! I think I deserve one of those big belt buckles for managing to get them all inside the dryer and it turned on before they escaped again. There will probably be an uprising when I open the door to change the load. Maybe I won't, and I'll just tell Dad when he gets home. He can take his chances with the rags! He can handle hanging up dance leotards, so he should be able to tame the cleaning rags don't you think?

Russell: I finally found a charger for that game thing that came home from the studio.....now the little girls think you need to come back and show them how to play it. I think they have a good idea...bring Shyla with you.

Dad finally got the last tree from the wedding returned this week. Sister Hyde has been out of town. His poor tigers are now depressed since they can't go outside and play in the forest anymore!

Well, enough of this foolishness for today.

All of you reading this, remember Dad and I love you very much. Go out there and do something you can be proud of today. Make amends with someone, do a bit of service, and mostly remember to represent your Heavenly Father.

Love you.
