Mom's Meanderings!

November 16, 2008

Today for family home evening, we are cleaning out the baby cradle! That means that Dad is getting the Christmas wrapping paper out of the garage, and we are wrapping all the home made and purchased presents that have to be mailed! Some of them have been living in the baby cradle for months. Cooper even used the things she made for her goals at young womens.

Then the next thing will be to get them in the mail.....that's a big job, and it always means standing in line. I want to mail them the cheap rate this year, so we are going to do it sooner than later.

ALSO: For those who haven't called with your hip measurements, you are VERY close to not getting pajama pants....they need to be in the boxes we are getting in the mail.

Dad is finally home for a while. He's been gone most of the last three weeks. I'm glad he is back. He gets to do the dance run for several days this week while I finish some Christmas things.

Uncle Russell called today. He isn't feeling well, has a cold. So does Owen. It was nice to chat for a few minutes with him.

Caleb: In the Daily Variety magazine they had an article about making a Transformers ride at Disneyland in the next two years. Just thought you would like to know.

Well, I am going to take my cashews and M & M's and find something to get done.

Everyone have a great week, and do something nice for someone else. Carry some groceries for an old lady, help someone clean up a mess, call your mother, take a cookie to someone who is lonely, buy a brownie for your favorite teacher, call your mother, email your dad.

Love you.

Misc. Stuff

November 12, 2008

We have the Saturn back, and it looks ok to me.....Dad will look at it when he comes back from the SEG Convention in Las Vegas.

We also got the dryer fixed...something about drum roller balls seizing up. The guy was more interested in lecturing me about emptying the lint trap than fixing the dryer. So there was two loads of lint in it. I empty it before I start a load, not when I finish a load....and who died and made him the lint God anyway? At 2:30 am on Tuesday, I was not interested in getting the lint out, just getting the clothes dried in case the repairman left my dryer in pieces.

It's been pouring rain ever since Dad left, and I figured out how to turn off the sprinklers so we didn't look like fools and water the lawn in the pouring rain. You know how Dad has a canary about that.

I even remembered to collect and put the trash out....guess you could say I am batting a thousand this week so far.

Today, Cooper is staying after school for an 8th grade party, and Cymbre is going to see Dr. Ermac about her allergies. She has just been miserable, and I think we need to change her medicine. I gave her some of Cooper's for the last two nights, and they seem to make it better for her, so I am going to ask Dr. Ermac for perscriptions for Cymbre for the same medicine.

I have been working constantly on some Christmas presents that I am making, and yesterday, I dug out the material for millions of pairs of PJ pants. I think this tradition definitely has to go....everyone is wanting more than one pair. The little girls are especially bad, they just think they need pj pants out of every piece of cute material they see.....the problem is they need them too. We'll see how many my foot survives making.

Got two costumes mostly done, so there are just three left. Have to draw the patterns, so that will take some time. I think I will get Britni to help me get the tulle cut when she comes for Thanksgiving.

We are so looking forward to having Britni home....the little girls are wanting to go places with her, and keep the traditions alive they have formed when she comes to town. Never know, we may even manage an early morning after Thanksgiving shopping trip to Kohls. We seem to like that place about 4 am. They always have something we want for someone for Christmas. Last year, it was the earphones for Russell.

Britni will also probably help me get out the Christmas china we use from Thanksgiving to Christmas. The little ones always like the Christmas dishes. Thank goodness, I had the forethought to bring them from England. Spode china here is too expensive!

Well, must get busy making the rhinestone choker for Cooper's tap costume, and sewing the lace on Cymbre's bobby socks. Then on to the doctor, dinner, dance....homework, baths, bed, with ice on the old foot. Dad will call sometime in there....next time I AM GOING with him.

Have a good day. Call someone you haven't talked to in a long time. Little sisters miss you.

Costume Photos

November 9, 2008

This is the infamous Mark Goodman's signature on Cooper's tap shoes! Big Stuff around here!

This is Cymbre's Fun, Fun, Fun Costume. She is dancing to the Beach Boys Song. It's minus her bobby sock though.

More of Cymbre from the front. I made this one from scratch.

This is the back of Cooper's Come Dance With Me tap solo.

This is the front in the ever present pose! We just bought the pieces and dolled them up. Not bad I say.

Dad is at the airport waiting for his plane to Las Vegas. It is delayed, as usual....that's not a good sign considering this is going to be a very long week.
Well, enjoy the photos, and leave a comment. The girls are interested in how you like them.
Love you.

Drama In The Sewing Room

November 8, 2008

OK, well I went in to clean up some of the mess in the sewing room, and you would not believe the drama!

I got the box out to put the extra costume stuff back in, and find some more stuff for another costume, and I had MUTINY on my hands! I guess I mistakenly bought some material that is scared of the dark, and so the remains of Cymbre's poodle skirt did not want to get back in the box! I set it down to make some space in the box, and the stuff just fell off the pile and came all unfolded. What a mess, three colors of felt all over....that's when the tulle told me that felt is scard of the dark! Then the feathers for Cooper's Stand Out hat didn't want to get smashed into the box either. Give me a break....who ever heard of feathers raising a ruckus! I mean really, there are two of them, so they each have a friend. Then I find out from the netting that the tulle thinks the netting is too scratchy. WHAT? Tulle isn't so unscratchy itself. While wrestling every bit of tulle and tulle ruffling back into the box, I discovered a spool of thread that has decided to unravel. Now if a spool of thread is going to go crazy and unravel everywhere, the least it could do it contain itself to one section of the box....not this one. This one decided to get all tangled up in the nylon mesh, Christmas balls, earrings, and buttons. Does anyone know a good thread psychiatrist? This spool has really lost it's mind! Rumor also has it that measuring tape is just about at his wits end. He is losing the little metal clasp on his end, and he feels like he is losing his clothes. I tried to glue the thing back on him, but he complained that the glue was to sticky. DUH!! AND, those straight pins must be having some kind of party. I found them all over the room. They must be becoming teen-age straight pins because I found them in pairs over under the yarn sack. Can you imagine my shock? It seems like just yesterday I bought those babies. I saved the cording just in time....those scissors were about to cut it into a zillion pieces. I've been told just recently by the bias tape, that scissors and cording don't get along very well when left alone for more than a moment. And, the zipper seems to be having dental problems. It's losing some of his teeth. Maybe I can get some dentures made for it. The poor iron is so distraught with so much work this week, she can be seen just blowing off steam! I had to move the chiffon so she didn't melt it. And the ironing board cover asked if I could give her a bath....seems she doesn't like the stains she is developing after such a bunch of ironing of costume parts this week. She doesn't like the starch buildup either. Is anyone happy in the sewing room? Pinking shears have gone on vacation, and all my sources are claiming they don't know where she went or when she will return. I hope it's soon, I may need her for something. My new ruffler seems to be the only one happy at the moment....he is quite content in his special spot in the third drawer down, right next to the walking foot. Maybe they can become best friends and make something wonderful together! I also have some pattern pieces that are playing hide and seek...well, I gave up the game and put the envelopes away in the drawer anyway. When those pieces decide to show themselves again, I'll grab them before they know what hit them, and into those envelopes they go. I secretly think that once you let patterns loose, there is no returning them to their proper envelopes! They seem to moan and scream if you fold them the wrong way, but they don't fit into the envelope if you don't fold them all up small. I still think when I pass the door of the room I can hear whimpers coming from the costume box and the pattern drawer. I could just fix the whole bunch of them, and shut the door. With the blinds drawn, it is so dark in there....it would just serve everyone right.

Well, enough of this foolishness for tonight.

Cymbre is still suffering quite a bit with her back injury. Say your prayers that she will feel better....I don't need another trip to the Urgent Care place this week.

Dad leaves for the SEG convention in Las Vegas this Sunday and returns on Friday. Guess we will see what happens this week.

I have to deal with the body shop and the rental car place for the Saturn this week.....that should be interesting. They say the Saturn is fixed, but they called Dad's office instead of home, and he was out of town....should be interesting when I go on Monday to pick the car up.

Well, I am going to fold some material I washed, and then take my bath.

I will try to post photos of the girls costumes tomorrow.

Everyone do something nice for someone this week....

Love you.

You can tell Dad Is Out Of Town

November 6, 2008

Tonight after getting some things together for the meetinghouse library, going to the school book fair, and doing the dance run, and finally taking Cymbre to the Urgent Care center.....we are home again.

Cymbre has a middle and lower back sprain after her fall last Saturday in her solo practice. No PE or dance for another week at least....I am beginning to think she is not meant to dance this solo this year.....she just keeps getting hurt. I am going to make Guy give her a blessing when he gets home tomorrow.

Guy is in Santa Fe, and will return home tomorrow....he leaves for Las Vegas on Sunday.....the car is still in the shop getting fixed from the accident.

Had to run to Walmart tonight late and get a rolling backpack for Cymbre...she can't lift more than 10 lbs and so that means no backpack. Found a rolling backpack suitcase thing, so I guess we will use that and I am going to talk to her teachers in the morning. The PE coach is going to think we have it in for him.

At least Cooper is feeling better from the accident, no if I can just keep her healthy.

Needless to say, my foot is swollen up like a balloon tonight.....hopefully by morning it will go down some....if not, I'll just spend the day on ice!

Got the girls tap solo costumes done!!! Took pictures, but they are still in the camera....maybe I can find a minute to upload them tomorrow.

Well, I am going to go take a quick shower and get off this foot....no sense trying to sleep for another couple of hours since Dad isn't here...I will lay in the bed and work on a Christmas present I am making.

Remember to say thank you to someone who has done something for you this week, and do something nice for someone else. Maybe they will say thank you in return.
