Medical Issues Times Three!

February 26, 2010

We have survived the past two weeks, but just barely some days!
Cooper's foot is now in a cast even though it isn't broken. The orthopedic foot doctor says that her tendons have to be immobilized for two weeks in order to heal themselves. A drama ridden situation for Cooper as it takes her out of her first competition. That's a BIG DEAL for Cooper. She lives to compete. However, there is no permanent damage to her foot and she will recover. She may have to get one more cast depending on what the doctor finds in two weeks when we go back. She goes around telling people her cast brings out her eye! AND it has so many signatures, you don't see much hot pink anymore.
My cyst situation is in a holding pattern right now....it's not bleeding, so the surgeon wants to just wait and see sort of thing. The medicine they put me on in case of infection really turned me every way but loose for 10 days. However, it seems to have stopped the bleeding. He told me what to watch for, and we will do further testings in May. THANK GOODNESS! That was REALLY SCARY for a few weeks!
Cymbre's eye injury has proven VERY DIFFICULT to sort out. We ended up down at the medical center to a Neuro-opthamologist who did a bunch of fancy tests. We have some terrific photos of the inside of her eye. She is still seeing a wonderful fireworks show, along with some pretty big black dots. At first we were looking at a vitreal detachment, then a possible retina detachment, but in the end they have ruled it Tramautic Neuropathy to her optic nerve. She is extremely lucky that she didn't shatter her eye ball when the exercise band hit it. So she has a wonderful team of eye specialists who have developed a real love for her, and who are going to continue monitoring her situation.
Cymbre's school teachers and nurse have also been very good to work with her as she basically doesn't see much at all out of her right eye. They have been working with her, letting her sit up close, and read things to her when necessary.
Thankfully, Cymbre can still dance in the competition. Cooper will be backstage helping with her babies.
We are so very grateful that with the help of the Priesthood, these three situations have turned out as well as they have. We have also relied on the temple to help support us through these terrible weeks.....we are still in constant prayer that Cymbre will not develope any blind spots in her eye...that would mean retina problems and surgery. The sleepless nights can now be fewer, but will probably continue until Cymbre's eye heals itself.
It seems that things like these always hit us together, and when Dad is out of town. However, he came right home and has been doing his best to help out, going to doctors, and making phone calls. He's the driver when we have to go downtown, as Mom gets hopelessly lost in all those big buildings.
SO, for now we can breathe a sign of relief that things were not the worst they could have been. THANK GOODNESS! I don't know how we would have handled Cymbre's situation or mine being worse. I think Heavenly Father is probably tired of hearing me cry to Him in my closet.
I have photos of Cooper's cast and Cymbre's eye, but can't seem to get the computer to do what I tell it to do this morning....so I am going to go to the store and buy some fruit. Then later today, we have to go to Cymbre physical therapy on her knee. NO EXERCISE BANDS though!
Cymbre could still use a tremendous amout of prayer for a quick healing of her optic nerve, and the return of normal sight, and I could use them in regards to my cyst not bleeding again. That won't be good.
Now maybe life can get back to some normal stuff again, and we won't have to see a different doctor everyday, and some days more than one.
I may just buy a happy meal for that man who sits on the street corner, and count my many blessings this past week.
Love you all.

Recent Happenings!

February 16, 2010

Here's some recent happenings at our house...it seems that school projects take up a lot of time lately. Here's the proof!

Cooper working on her Lifetime Achievement Project...she is doing Lucille Ball. What she is making is the award which she will present in a talk in class.

Cymbre's coffee can racer...however, for her it is a soup can!
She named it the "Rhino Racer" Bet you can't guess why....

Painting, painting, painting....

Original art!

Coloring in the letters.
Dad is quite grateful when there is a weekend where they don't have to make something for school. I just do the shopping...it's Dad's job to help with the projects. I think he will be glad to be out of 6th grade and 9th grade at the end of the year.

Therapy Beginning To Work!!!

February 5, 2010

THE GOOD NEWS IS THE THERAPY IS BEGINNING TO WORK for Cymbre....the bad news is each week it gets more expensive!

Her therapist said this week that she is making progress faster than he thought she would, and the muscles are beginning to figure out what we need them to do again! HURRAH! YIPPEE!!
She hasn't had the tears so much this past week, but is still VERY sore all the time. Thank goodness for Tylenol and Aleve...

This week he put her on a bicycle thing and made her go really slow, and then put her on "Very Expensive WII" he said and had her push against tension. Then on to a balance board that she wasn't supposed to touch the ground on either side (she's good at this because of her dancing on one leg!) Then her stretching exercises on a bigger ball this time, and on a bigger wedge thing. He didn't have her roll the ball on the wall today, but told her to continue doing it at home. Now at home she does this football leg lift thing, and then will change the last 2 minutes to the harder leg lift he had her do today. She has about 30 minutes of exercises to do now. Some twice a day, some just after dance, and then always 10 minutes of ice on both knees. She does the exercises on both knees....I guess progress is a good thing this week.

Everyone keep saying those prayers and keep her name in your temples.

Ms. Andee is coming tonight for a little while before Cooper's birthday party....they will work on hard tap steps....the girls LOVE it when she comes. Traffic update: Ms. Andee is still in traffic, so we are probably going to the studio earlier tomorrow for our tap lesson.

Tonight for the party, they are painting picture frames, eating pizza, shaving balloons, and making outfits out of newspaper and duct tape. Cymbre will be taking pictures. That's her job!

I have one week to make a Dr. jacket, alter Cooper's Mercy costume, finish Cymbre's jazz sleeve, and make some jewelry for I'm Not That Girl. They have the Company Production next Friday...Think I'll make it....let's hope so. Then after that show, I will work on the tutu stuff for Firebird....there's no way it will be done this week.....and Dad is gone for most of the week...so that means we have to call him for Math homework! He will be in Canada for 3-4 days. Guess that means I have to do the seminary drop off too....and all the dance runs. I think I deserve donuts for being Mom and Dad next week.!! Someone take care of that for me ok...I don't have time to go get them!

This Grammie is LOVING the pictures of my grandbabies on the blogs this week...Grandpa really like the Eden one with the elephants! Keep those pictures coming...Dad puts them on my keychain thing, and then I get to make all my friends jealous! Works for me!!

Dad has the reservations made to go to California...haven't printed them out, but at least they are made.

Now I just have to get back with Mark Goodman about when he wants to see "his girls". I still think they are MINE!!

TP: If you are reading this, I finally have all the stuff to mail your Christmas and Birthday presents. You do like to celebrate in February right???

Russell and Holly: We are bring at least some of your birthday presents with us when we come....I'll have to mail what won't fit...So we need to party at Shyla's for everyone's birthday...OK! Shyla, we will need to make a cake...so get the stuff ok. AND GRAMMIE gets to hold the babies during the partying! Cooper will lead the dancing, Cymbre will take pictures, and Who knows what Dad will do...probably just sit and watch and play Babies with Grammie! He could always read But Not the Hippotamus....that makes babies cry you know!!! Russell in is charge of drinks, the non alcoholic versions! Caleb and Holly are in charge of showing up! And bring the baby too! Britni brings Taco Bueno...don't we all wish!!!

ALSO: Shyla is making the photo appointment, so bring some Sunday clothes for the pictures.

Well, I must get busy....change the laundry and such boring things.

Have a great week, and remember to serve someone you don't know. You will be glad you did.

Love you all bunches.

Here We Go Again!!

February 1, 2010

We have survived the dance convention weekend, and the girls got to meet the girl who just won So You Think You Can Dance....she was there as part of the faculty. She told Cooper that she is really good at Funk Jazz...made Cooper's Day!
Cymbre managed to get Mike Minery's autograph on her sweat shirt....he's the tap guy for the convention. All in all, they had a great time. Cymbre ended up sitting out and taking notes for most of the day, but she learned a lot anyway. Her knees are just giving her fits as she teaches those muscles to stretch.
Cymbre has Osgood-Schlatter disease in her knees. Basically that means that her bones are growing faster than her muscles. That is complicated by her injury 2 years ago that basically shut down the muscles, and so she is functioning with 30% of her muscle usage. Therefore, the physical therapist is trying to help her teach those muscles from her hip down to her ankle to stretch and work. A very painful process, when they have basically become very lazy. She is a real trooper though, and is trying to dance through the pain.....it's beginning to stretch, but is going to take some time before it is where they want it to be. So keep saying your prayers for her. 70 percent of a lazy muscle is a lot to have to try to wake up!!
I have been rhinestoning the costumes....just have one more to stone, and one more to make. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, however, with this Firebird tutu thing, it's still VERY FAR away! I did however, but a heart feather wreath to use in making the hat, so that's a bit of progress on that costume. The other feathers will have to be on something that can be tied on her at the last minute, as Cooper has allergies....always something with her! And I sewed the elastic and ribbons on her new pointe shoes so she can break them in before having to perform in them.
I've got to get the girls to put on the costumes so I can take some photos, and put them here....they are beautiful again this year, even if I do say so myself! I never dreamed 40 years ago when I started sewing that I would be a costume designer today!
Thank goodness for the prom dress I could just remodel this year....I may do it that way again next year. It's pretty slick how it works. It's all the little things...jewelry, hats, and stuff that I don't like to do. They take to much time, and too much shopping for little stuff!
I've sent Valentines boxes to my Grandbabies...sorry kids...it's all about the babies now!
Dad is making the reservations for the trip to California....and boy is this Grammie excited to see those babies again! I going to start collecting presents!
Dad will be in Calgary next week, so who knows what will happen here...maybe everyone should start praying for NOTHING to happen! I could really use a Dad trip with nothing happening at home.
The girls talked to Grandpa and Grandma last night....they love to talk to them.....And Cooper is looking forward to Grandpa calling to sing Happy Birthday this week!
Cooper will be taking donuts to seminary on her birthday, and I guess Dad will stay for a few minutes to talk about her....don't know what he'll say, but he will think of something.
Cooper gave a talk in Sacrament meeting yesterday about temple work. Everyone says she did a great job. Cymbre and I were home trying to get her knee to work, so we missed it.
I finally got Cooper registered for EFY. She is going to Huntsville the 28th of June through July 3, then home a day, and off to girls camp. Cymbre and I are going to have some serious sewing for Cymbre time!!
The bathroom tile is down and sealed, and I just have a couple of drawers and cabinets left to clean out. It's finally looking pretty again! I wish the whole entry was the white tile, but we aren't going to replace what's there yet. Dad wants to re-carpet, but that's a BIG MESS too. I don't like big messes in the house!
Well, I must get busy on Cymbre's Dr. Dr. Dance jacket....it has to get to the embroidery lady early this week, and it isn't even cut out. I would rather go shopping for the GRANDBABIES!!!
Remember that you should be doing something for someone less fortunate than you everyday...it helps keep the Spirit close...
Love you all
Mom
