2,000 Stripling Warriors

December 16, 2009

I went to the LDS bookstore last night and found a wonderful picture of the 2,000 Stripling Soldiers! Caleb would love it! It came home with me, and I gave it to Dad for our anniversary since I never had found a gift. I have never seen a picture like this one, and it just touched my heart! They said it had just come in, and I bought the only one they had. I'll have to put a picture of it here when I get another minute.

The girls are both at school, and no one has called for medicine, so we must be on the mend. Cooper's new antibiotic appears to be helping her chest. And we didn't have to do the steam tent last night!

Both the girls are enjoying getting little presents from their baby classes at the dance studio. I guess that's a fun perk of being a student assistant teacher...presents! They are getting candles, candy, gift cards, etc.

Dad and I are finishing up the projects we have been making for Christmas for the girls. Dad's one for Cymbre has turned out really cute, and I will post a photo after Christmas. Now we just have to figure out how to wrap it!

It's cold and windy here today...and I need to go the the fabric store. I have to match some material for Cooper's pointe costumes! I know for the one I will end up downtown at High Fashion.

I paid the first competition fees last night...doesn't seem like it should be that time of year. Cooper has 3 solos and a trio, and Cymbre is doing 2 solos this year. Solos are more expensive than the groups dances, but we don't do the groups since they may dance on Sunday. Kristin lets the girls do the solos because we can change them to Saturday if we need to. I'm glad we changed studios if for no other reason than they don't have to be in groups to compete at the new one. They are much happier at dance this year...they have Andee again...and the other teachers seem to be able to challenge them. They love it when Andee comes to the house on Friday to work on hard tap steps with them. She has been wonderful to work with them! She is becoming a real mentor to them. Ms. Casey is also a great influence on Cooper in her ballet. She keeps telling us that she will turn Cooper into a ballerina yet....but Andee has had her tapping for years now! I still think the tap will win, although her pointe has come a long way this past year.

I am working on the family Christmas newsletter...that thing always takes me forever to write. Maybe this year I will just do a boring one, and then no one will want it next year! What do you think? Nah...I already have written about Dad and his hot pink suitcase going to Shyla's!

Well, I must get this costume finished this morning...I want Britni to help rhinestone the finished ones when she comes....that's a good thing to keep her and the girls busy for hours!

Have a great day, and remember, especially this next week or two to do something unexpected that is of service to someone you don't know....it's fun, and makes you feel the Saviors'Spirit!

Love you all.

Sunday!

December 13, 2009

It's been a really long week with Dad out of town, the girls sick, and everything else! Dad is finally home, and the girls will be going back to school in the morning....however, they still have their coughs. I think the sore throats and upper respiratory infections are gone finally! Hope they stay gone.

We have most of the Christmas presents wrapped...just a few for Dad left and the stocking stuffers. I still have one thing to mail to Shyla and Holly, and the box to Grandma and Russell )my brother). Britni will come the beginning of next week, and hopefully, I will have some of the cookies done before she gets here.

The pj's are all done and some are even mailed! The pain in my hands and foot proves it!

The girls have finals this week, and a weird dance schedule. All this week of parties is crazy!

Cooper's Tap costume is ready to gather back together...then on to her pointe ones. Got the tutu in the mail this week....just trying to flatten it back out. I can't believe they took a pancake tutu and tied it all up in a little ball to ship....how dumb! I will never buy anything from that place again. If I could get one on time from somewhere else, I would send the thing back!

I am hoping that Britni will help us get the costumes rhinestoned while she is home.....last year she helped cut tulle. We don't have to do that this year. Thank goodness!!

Just have a couple of things left to shop for, and if I don't find them, it won't be the end of the world. Got some great presents for Dad this year....some years I just can't find anything.

That's about all the news for tonight...I am going to take my bath!

Love you all

Blessings

December 8, 2009

President Meier and Brother Ohering have just left. I called Patti Weinken to see if her husband would get someone and come give the girls blessings since both of them are sick. She told me her husband was sick, but President Meier was on his way to give him a blessing. As we were talking, her doorbell rang....it was President Meier. She told them I was on the phone looking for priesthood because Cymbre was having an asthma attack at the dance studio, and I needed a blessing for her. They said they would come over to the house when they were done giving LeRoy his blessing. I'm glad I followed my urge to call Patti...it was amazing timing! I hurried to get Cymbre from the studio, and into some steam to calm down her cough, and they came. Cooper was at the Urgent Care place last night and has strep... They gave both girls wonderful blessings....now everything is going to be fine. The medicines are going to work, they will be able to get the rest they need, and they are going to get better. It's truly amazing how that works. Thank goodness we know that it works, and we have the right to ask for those blessings.

Can you tell Dad is out of town? And just so everyone knows...the Christmas lights out in the yard don't work tonight. It's too dark to investigate, but something is going on. And I found a crack in the siding on the house today above the bay window at the back of the house.....it better not leak is all I've got to say!

GREAT!...what will happen tomorrow?

More Busyness!

November 26, 2009

Today is Thanksgiving, and we have had the usual "busyness"! Cooking, watching the parade, Dad doing Christmas lights outside. The little girls just RELAXING! They don't get to do that very often with the dance stuff they do.

I have loaded the dishwasher three times and ran it today....I think that's twice to many! Oh, well, dinner and pies and cheesecakes were worth the work I guess.

Bright and early in the morning, while normal people are still sleeping, the girls and I will be in line at Kohls. There are a couple of gifts we need to pick up there, and then on to Target, Home Depot, Radio shack, and the mall. We will go out to breakfast after the Kohls pay line, and see how much energy we have to plow through the rest of our lists. We might have to come home around 9-10am for a little cat nap before going back out. Christmas shopping is almost done this year....not as much as last year, but we want to go to California as a family in March to hug on baby Eden. We want to have the entire family, so we are not spending as much on Christmas this year. Dad thinks we are weird for going shopping in the wee hours of the morning, but it has become a fun tradition for the girls and I. We just wish Britni was here to go with us again this year.

I made a whole jazz costume for Cymbre today....it was pretty easy. I had bought a hot pink leotard, and then just made a blue coverup for it. Turned out really cute...I'll post photos later. I just have to figure out a headpiece for it. We got some hairbows down on Harwin street that Cymbre wants to use, but I need some feathers or something to go with them. I am trying to order a buckram hat form, but have to send a letter to the company to open an account. The next costume is Cooper's tap, and that's just taking a dress up to make a top, and then decorating it. It should be easy. I've ordered rhinestones, and they should get here sometime the beginning of the week. We found the jewelry we needed on Harwin street, and even found the beginnings of a bird hat for Cooper's pointe solo - Firebird - this year. I have ordered the red pancake tutu, and will start constructing the costume using her white one until the red one gets here. Also picked up some feather boas at Hobby Lobby this week...they were on sale. I also found a flip flop decoration that I want to turn into a strap holder for Cymbre's tap costume. I made narrow straps, and they tend to fall off her shoulders, so I wanted to have something to hold them together on the top of her shoulder. Just have to figure out how to attach the flip flop thing to get it to stay where I want it. Ms. Casey wants Cooper to look like a bird, so I have some pictures to go on, but that costume will be my challenge this year. Cooper will look really good in the bright red costume though. I need another trip down to High Fashion to look for some fancy material for the bird costume.

I am hoping that I might find some time to do a bit of sewing for the family this next week. We'll see.

Dad wants to put up the Christmas decorations this weekend. He will be gone next weekend, and then to London for a while. So it's either now, or wait until the middle of December. I love to have them up, so I guess we'll do it now.

I got out the snowman cookie jars, but rarely use them for cookies. They humidity ruins cookies down here. However, they look great sitting on the kitchen counter. We also got out the Christmas Spode dishes today. I love to use them for the month of December....we bought them in England so many years ago.

I bought myself a Christmas tree to put in the front entry to use for just my snowman ornaments. I am getting a good collection, and the other tree is so full that I decided to make my own snowman tree. I hear you all moaning....it won't do you any good! In fact, you can contribute to my snowman Christmas tree anytime you feel the need.

And those of you who are curious will be glad to know that yes, I have bought a new snowman this year. He is a really cute cookie jar! Hallmark stopped making the singing snowmen, so I bought a new cookie jar instead. I may have to go to Hallmark and get a couple of those cute snowman ornaments for my tree though.

My face is still quite numb, but not getting worse...guess those steroids at least did something. I am tired of it stinging all the time though. And I look like someone slapped my cheeks they are so red! Who knew Bells's Palsy can return just because you get sick with something else? It has something to do with inflammation in your body when you are sick. Pretty dumb if you ask me!

Dad has decided to use the driver's ed in a box approach to teach Cooper how to drive. She can get her pemit in February...heaven forbid! It sure doesn't seem like she is old enough, but I am looking forward to when she can just take them both to dance and come home when they are done. No more camping out at the studio for hours! I enjoy having a teenage driver in the house. They are so great for quick trips somewhere while I get something else done.

I am trying to come up with things to write in the family Christmas newsletter, so if you kids have some ideas, please send them my way. I have a reputation to preserve you know.

Well, must try to sleep at least a bit before the grand shopping expedition! Those two girls are crazy at 3am! By 5am we will be at Burger King eating french toast strips! We will beat Dad up tomorrow.

Love you all,

Mom
