My Guy!

May 26, 2010
I have been thinking about doing this post for quite some time, and just have never gotten around it to. But tonight is the night.
I met this man 31 plus years ago, and I am forever grateful for that day. My life now revolves around this man, we have 5 children together. He leaves me love notes on the bathroom mirror (which I save in my drawer). He calls from wherever he is, just to say I love you. He has helped the kids with homework in the middle of the night from around the world. I love to sit right next to him at the restaurants even when the hostess thinks I am crazy to ask not to sit at those little booths. My hand fits perfectly into his...I like to sleep right on top of him...there is some sort of security in knowing he is right there. This man has seen me through several surgeries, nursing me each time. He shares the taking care of the kids, and the dance runs...he cleans the bathroom! He does the dishes, and sends me to hug the grandbabies....he calls to see what I am doing....he loves me forever. He buys me "GUY" cards for my anniversary, and birthday, and whatever other holidays...he puts up with the straight pins on the bedroom floor when I sew....he always finds a house with the whirlpool tub when we have to move. (Which we have done a lot!) He takes me out almost every Friday...sometimes just to Arby's, other times to Outback....and we eat matching salads with no dressing, and he gives me his croutons because he knows that I love them. He loves my perfume...and loves my red jacket that I made. He takes me to chick flicks at the movies, and holds my hand the entire movie after we eat the popcorn....he brings me roses just because....he lets me go to bed while he waits up for the kids....he bought me an automatic car when he knew that it hurt my foot to drive the manual one....I like his kisses, and his hugs....he snores, but puts up with me making him turn over....he loves my children...we were foster parents before we had our own kids....he built the girls a dance studio upstairs just because they love to dance....he loves me just because I am me....he sits through dance competitions for days on end....he pays the bills...takes me to the temple....he is MY GUY, and I am keeping him....

You Don't Get To Shoot ANYTHING At Her Eye!

May 26, 2010

Ok, so I take Cymbre to the eye doctor to get a new glasses perscription. I take all the letters from the eye specialist, and have her diagnosis written on a piece of paper. I tell the technician her problems, and she takes us back to check her perscription and do the other tests that they do before you see the doctor.
So she checks her perscription, and then she sets her at the machine to check the pressure in her eye.....now I am not stupid, and as soon as she says what she is going to do....I have this TERRIBLE FEELING....and suddenly, I just say, you can't do this to her....It was that test where they shoot the little puffs of air at your eye to check for glaucoma! The technician says that she has to do this test, and I said no you don't. She has a posttraumatic vitreoretinal interface abnormality, and a posterior vitreal detachment with traction. That means that NOTHING can hit her eye....or it could cause the retina to detach, causing blindness. The technician says I will have to sign a paper refusing the test....I told her to get the paper, that they weren't shooting air or anything else at her eye unless they wanted to be responsible for her blindness.
So we sign the paper, and she takes us to the doctor.....I explain the issues to the doctor and tell her that I refused the test. She said under the circumstances, I was right to refuse the test. I told her that she didn't need to worry about the issues Cymbre has as the neuro opthomalogist is taking care of them. And therefore, we don't need to dialate her eye today. We just need her to do the exam and perscribe new glasses. BOY, AM I GLAD I DIDN'T SEND HER BACK BY HERSELF....she might have come out not seeing in her right eye!!! No one can ever do that kind of a test to her....she has to have her eye numbed, and manually examined.
Back in a minute....blood sugar is too low....must eat some candy.....
OK, so we got her new frames, and she got some really cute purply pink plastic things. They are really cute on her....now we just have to wait to get them.
Then last night around midnight, Cymbre comes downstairs holding her broken retainer! GIVE ME A BREAK....it hasn't even been a month since we replaced the thing!!! She was asleep, and it fell out of her mouth, and somehow, it is broken in several pieces. $200 to replace the thing. I called the orthodontist today, and told him that we have to change our plan....I can't pay that kind of money every few weeks....he said he will think of something. She sees him tomorrow.
I am finally getting my blood sugar under control again....this insulin stuff can be touchy....and I have to keep my favorite candy bar handy for times like tonight, but who doesn't enjoy a good cherry mash candy bar now and then. I am feeling better, but I wish the medicine wasn't do darn expensive! They say all this is because I am getting older....and I told them I was going to slug them the next time they told me that....Dad may be getting older, but I AM NOT!!! I am a very young Grandma! Deal with it!!! If I was old, I would have lots of gray hair, and I don't.
I can hardly wait for school to be out for the summer....I am SO TIRED of the routine. I just want to play....to sew with the girls, to go down to Harwin street and look for costume jewelry, to have their friends over, to go to lunch with their friends, to SLEEP IN, to turn off the alarm clock, and to just do what we want to for a while.
I cleaned up the sewing room yesterday, now we can make it a mess again sewing this summer.....I mean I have two new GRANDBABIES on the way, so surely there must be some sewing that needs doing. YEAH! GRANDBABIES!!
I showed Sister Mayo my grandma brag book today, and told her she has to be very jealous....She didn't have a problem with that....she was!
Dad is at the Taylor Swift concert with the girls tonight.....I am home alone. I think I may fill up the tub, and use all the hot water, and read my new book I got for Mother's Day! I have been ironing all day, so I think I deserve the luxury!
Cooper is actually doing very well with her driving....I think I have almost got her to park! She does better with the slanted parking spaces then the straight ones, and we haven't even tried the parallel stuff yet.....but she is driving most everywhere we go. Dad even took her on the highway and made her go 65 the other night....she was terrified!
Well, the candy bar is clicking in, so it's time for some bubbles, a cold drink, and my book.....then my nightie, and a movie. I'm not so shaky now....
You all need to find someone to help tomorrow....carry some groceries, cheer up a friend, serve someone. AND HUG THOSE GRANDBABIES!!!!
I love you.

One MoreTime At The Urgent Care Center!!!

May 24, 2010

Ok, so we are sitting as a family at the movie theater on Friday night watching the Letter's To Juliet movie. Then about half was through, Cymbre needs to use the restroom. I went with her as there are some wierdos that like to hang out at our movie theaters. Once there, she tells me that she is very itchy....so I look at her. SHE IS COVERED in itchy spots! I gave her a benedryl that I always keep in my purse. We watched the movie for a few more minutes, and she just kept getting worse. So now, I say to Dad, does he think I should take her to the urgent care center. We decided that I should. So, the two of us left the movie....in the middle....and went over to the center. We left Dad with no car....
Once at the center, they took her basically right in after I did the paperwork. Dr. Mufasa...not really his name, but he calls her Simba, so she calls him that was the doctor there....He came in and looked at her and said she needs a steroid shot. And he was going to mix in some more benedryl He wanted her to have an adult dose to slow down the allergic reaction she was having! GREAT!!!
We couldn't figure out what caused it though...she had worn sunscreen all day at school because they were outside for a game day, and she had worn bug spray. When we went to the movie, she has a bit of a headache, so I gave her Motrin, which she has also taken for years. She was sitting there eating popcorn, and a Dr. Pepper which she does all the time.
So, we stayed until they were sure the extra dose of benedryl and the steroids were going to resolve the situation, and then he gave me a perscription for more steroids if it continued, or came back.....and we went back to the theater to get Dad and Cooper.
OK, so WHY does it ALWAYS have to be CYMBRE? She is still very itchy today, so I just got back from getting her the other steroids....she is still taking the adult benedryl dose, which the doctor told me to give her until she wasn't itchy anymore. It would help to prevent things from getting worse....OK...I know that because we have been through this same kind of thing with Cooper, however, she ended up in the hospital having epi shots every few hours and being packed in ice. She is getting some wonderful rest though...which is very good for her knees!
We are finally going to get Cymbre some new glasses tomorrow....that should be fun explaining to her regular eye doctor what all these specialists have to say about her eye....I am taking the letters from the neuro opthamologist. AND, she won't need her eye dialated since Dr. Lee just did it last month. I am so not looking forward to all this explaining tomorrow.
I have been making all the doctor checkup appointments for all of us...you know the well kid checkups, dentist appointments, eye doctor, allergist. It seems like I spend all summer just going to the doctor.....and we already have had our fair share of doctors since the beginning of the year. Thank goodness for insurance!
The girls are MORE THAN READY to be done with school....me too....I just hate that routine. School, homework, dance, pack lunches, bed...just to redo everything the next day. We are ready for some sewing, shopping, going to see Papa time!
Cymbre took brownies to share with her school friends last week...they were having a lunch time birthday party for those whose birthdays are during the summer....and Cooper is taking pizza on Tuesday this week. Cooper will also get out of school early beginning the end of the week and all next week because of finals.
SO, my list of comings and goings is very long, and I have to remember to go pick up medicine at both schools before the end of the year.
Hemmed a prom dress for a friend's daughter this week, and hopefully, that will be the last one. I just hate hemming those tulle things....thankfully, this one I just did was just straight. I really must get one with the Grandma box sewing again....we are having two new ones during the next year.
The Aunties and I are hoping for a boy for Shyla and Russell, and a girl for Caleb and Holly. We'll see. Rumor has it that Russell is looking forward to when their baby comes because he thinks I will catch up the ironing again......well, this time I have a grandbaby to play, so we'll see how much time I have.
Gary and Jean will be here to visit the end of the week....not sure what we will do, but we need to think of something.
Cymbre's physical therapy is going well, although she is very sore. That dumb muscle shrunk back up while she was in her casts...why was that necessary?
Cooper is beginning to get better at driving....I let her take me when I have an errand, and she is finally beginning to get the hang of parking in her spot. We have spent hours practicing parking...in a space, back out, go find another space, back out, for find another space. Dad actually took her on the highway last night....she said she was scared.
Had a GREAT time skyping with the grandbabies this past week...it is SO FUN to actually see them. And I actually showed off my keychain again to a lady at school....bet she's sorry she asked to see it. Oh well, that's what Grandma's do!
Well, I guess that's about all the news for today...I am going to find something to sew in the sewing room.
EVERYONE reading this needs to help someone out this week.....look for someone you don't know, and do something special for them. Drop off a happy meal to that homeless person on the street corner, or a cold water bottle. Take a brownie to your favorite teacher. Call a lonely friend....help out a college student.
Love you bunches......

Grandma Is Armed With New Photos! Beware!!

May 19, 2010
Beware! This Grandma is armed and ready with new photos of those GRANDBABIES!!! I finally got Dad to update my keychain....I'd say it time to BRAG for this Grandma! Let's see, who am I seeing for lunch this week?
The better thing though is Skyping the grandbabies....or the best is seeing them, and hugging them, and buying them presents! I know, I'm just a TINY BIT BIASED, but who cares! I really need to skype Baby Jack again..I've talked to Eden a couple of times. Jack has been busy moving, so we haven't had a chance the last few days.
Got a curtain pattern I want to try for the dining room, now I just need the animal print material. I want something that will coordinate with Dad's office since it is over run with his tigers!
Cymbre is starting to get the hang of doing her own hair....she did a good job on Sunday. She still likes me to do it for school, since she likes how pouffy I get the back. It's sort of hard for her to get the back when she can't see it.
We are living for June 2....the last day of school for this year. They don't go back until August 23ish...and we are planning to sleep in the first few days. I haven't planned anything for before about 9:30am.....
Cooper will be going to Girl's Camp, and EFY, and Cymbre will be doing the summer dance classes. Both of them will begin the new solos and their duet for next year. Guess we'll see how those feet hold up. Dad is sending us to Phoenix in September for Mark Goodman's tap thing again. They LOVE that!
The girls have brought home their jazz costumes for recital, but there are some problems with the ballet 5 and tap 5 ones....seems the company hasn't sent them. OK...Kristin is working on replacements, and hopefully, they will get here on time. Kristin asked Cymbre to dance with Cooper's babies onstage last night....she is smaller than Cooper, and the kids just won't dance if the teacher isn't out in front. They are only 3....so Cymbre will dance onstage, and Cooper will be in the wings. Thank goodness, since Cymbre doesn't know the dance, but she will pick it up very quickly. Cooper will probably teach it to her over this weekend.
Dad got the new laptop all organized, and Cymbre used it for her homework last night....she loves being wireless at home now. That means, no more fights over who does homework first on the computer....they can both work at the same time. Dad just has to hook up the printer part of the laptop now.
Cooper finally turned in her movie that her and Dad have been working on for weeks. She says based on what the teacher has shown as samples, she should get full credit. Maybe she will be lucky and get some extra credit, although she has a good grade in that class already. That thing took FOREVER, and several family members have roles in it. Cymbre's dialated eye, Caleb's brain scans, Grandpa in his shamrock glasses, Cooper dancing....
The driving experience is getting easier for Cooper...Dad has her drive the van to seminary, and we put her in the car every chance we get. She still isn't driving in heavy traffic, but she is getting better at keeping the car in her lane, and not slamming on the brakes giving everyboy whiplash! She likes to go a bit to fast when turning corners, but since I told her she was going to tip over the car, she is doing better with that too. Her biggest problem, she misses the driveway EVERY time. She comes around the corner, stays on the left side of the street, and then can't manage to turn into the driveway. Could it be that she needs to be on the right side of the street? When I made her be on the right side of the street, she managed just fine. AMAZING!! Dad and I can hardly wait for February when we get to finally say...take your sister and go to dance! Just think...we could have a DATE every night!
Physical therapy is going ok for Cymbre...it's quite painful again. Those muscles that were all stretched out in her leg have all tightened up again. So basically, she is starting all over. The therapist thinks it will restretch very quickly, but it is some work for her. She walks around really stiff this week, and LOVES the ice in the cup thing he has her do when she is done with the exercies. It numbs everything, and then she can walk normally for a couple of hours.
Cymbre's vision is fading in and out some days just like Dr. Lee said it would. It has always come back within about an hour....and is still very blurry. I am getting her a Dr. appointment for new glasses. Cooper wants to get some contacts for when she dances. She says she can't see anything on stage now, so I guess we will discuss that option too.
Guess that's about all the news for today, since I can't find the paper where Dad wrote how to get the pictures off the camera and into the right place so I can find them. I have pictures of my dining room, and am taking one of Cooper driving.....and the patriarch dinner, and my flower arrangements for the dinner.
I might go shopping for some yarn for new GRANDBABY blankets today. Got to look for some material for blessing outfits too.....I think my Grandma box will be getting some use again! HURRAH!! More photos to show off!
We made a 72 hour food kit last night at RS. Really neat....you don't have to cook anything, but you would need two of them if you were having to move trees or clean up a flood per person. I thought it was a really great idea. It all fits in a gallon ziplock bag.....WONDERFUL!
Must go get busy....still have to do the breakfast dishes, and finish drying towels from yesterday. AND I have to go get a scrapbook for Cooper to make some project for school. AND I have to get Caleb's birthday stuff in the mail. We had a little delay because he was moving.
Everyone have a great day....and remember that there just may be someone out there somewhere who needs your smile, a cookie, a happy meal, or a cold water bottle from you. Get out there and find them.
Love you bunches,
Mom
PS...time for new GRANDBABY photos on blogs...HINT, HINT!

Stuff This Week...

May 13, 2010

It's been a while since I wrote, and the kids are begging, so I decided to appease them just a bit and write some today.
Cymbre is now out of her air cast and can begin to dance as she tolerates it again. THAT'S A BIG DEAL AROUND HERE! She is hope that she might be able to do her tap dance and her ballet dance in recital. Just getting out of that cast has made a real difference in her outlook on things.
Her vision continues to stick around, but is still really blurry....at least it's seeing something. That's a big improvement over just blackness. So yet another blessing!
Her knees need some major work because these casts have really messed up what they had worked to hard to fix, but the physical therapist will be able to help her. I have a call into him this morning. She aws given some stretching exercises from the doctor, and some things to wear in her shoes. HOPEFULLY, we won't end up back in that cast!
Both the girls have been invited to a swimming birthday party tomorrow night, and they both have clearance from the doctor to swim. THANK GOODNESS! Guess I need to go get the present for them to take now.
Cooper's Patriarch dinner was a hugh success....her teacher said it was the most fun activity she had been too...all the beehives, and mia maids here with the patriarch and his wife for dinner and talks. She made handouts, got gifts for the speakers, organized the dinner, set the tables, did all the follow up, and MOM did all the work part. Just how does that work? At least she learned how to organize and follow up and that was what was most important. She's got some pictures, that I will post later.
For some reason the patriarch is a VERY SPECIAL person to Cooper, and she was beyond thrilled when he showed up last night. I am grateful for his interest in her, and for all the hugs that he so willingly gives her each Sunday when she chases him down. His wife is my visiting teacher, and we just love her too. She calls him her BFF....ok....
Cooper is doing well with her foot and dancing too....she has danced tap for a week, and NO PAIN!! TERRIFIC...not she can slowly add some jazz in there and see how it goes. She still continues her exercises, but at this point doesn't have to do physical therapy anymore unless the pain returns.
SO, I guess we are back to fixing Cymbre's knees.
Had to replace both Cymbre's retainers the last couple of weeks....thank goodness I bought the insurance on them....but it only works once....so now she has to be extra careful with them. She isn't wearing them to dance anymore because that's where we lost the last one when the teacher decided to feed them pizza. OK...whatever....
Cooper sees the orthodontist today....we totally forgot her appointment on Tuesday....I was just a tad busy....so we go today. She'll have a sore mouth for a couple of days.
School only has a couple of weeks left....THANK GOODNESS...I am SO SICK of making lunches everyday....I should make the girls make their own lunches.
The school says that Cymbre has to make up 4 hours of school because she has missed so much, so they told her to come to detention for a full Saturday...she refused, they told her to come to after school tutoring...she told them they make her leave the building for off campus pe, so now she goes 30 minutes before school and staples papers for a teacher. GIVE ME A BREAK. If she is supposed to be making up lost learning time....what are we accomplishing? They make her do this so they can get their government money...OK....my taxes pay that government, so that they can give it to the school that makes my daughter do these stupid things! Wha'ts wrong with this picture?
On a HAPPIER NOTE: we are getting some more grandbabies in the months to come!!!! We are SO EXCITED!!!! And yes, I fully intend on bragging at every opportunity....that's what Grandma's do best!
Dad got me a webcam for Mother's Day, and I have enjoyed so much Skyping the grandbabies....would do it everyday if I had time, and if those grandbabies could work those computers. BUT, we have to rely on parents....who have been really great to hook the things up.
Well, must run to Walmart and get a anti skid thing to put under the new rug by the backdoor. I have fallen twice, and that's not a good thing.....makes my toe hurt to say nothing about what it does to my back. AND the girls don't need to fall and hurt those expensive feet again.
SO, I will love you and leave you!
BUT,
Don't forget to go out and do something for someone else today....there is someone out there just waiting for your help.
Love you all bunches and bunches.
Mom
