My Luck still hasn't changed....
The combination lock on the back door has died, not even new batteries will revive the dumb thing! So anyone coming and going needs to remember to take their house key until Dad can get home from his wanderings and figure out how to fix the thing or replace it.
Speaking of Dad and his wanderings....he is probably going to have to stay gone longer in order to go to a meeting for a man who has a seriously broken arm. I guess at least he is being compassionate, but I could really use him to come home!
At church yesterday, they dumped the Meetinghouse Librarian job on me....GREAT!!! I hadn't figured out ward librarian, and now I am in charge of the meetinghouse too! That means I am responsible for everything in the library and all the librarians in both wards. Just what I need in the middle of a wedding. Russ says 61 days and counting...at least if the website is counting correctly...I think he may be rushing it just a bit! A little birdy told me Russ is excited! Hope I get these dresses done.
Cymbre is home sick today....just the sniffles, but I just didn't have the energy to make her go to school....besides she just lays on the couch watching Disney, so she isn't much trouble.
OK, is there any good news?
Yes, the polka dot fabric is here. Now I just have to make it up into everything....going to start with Baby dresses.
Shyla has the wedding dress and veil after some tribulation, but I managed to get the store straightened out....thank goodness. She will be home this week, and then the excitement really begins!
Well, the muggy stuff is back in Houston, so I don't even think I will take time to do my hair today....won't stay curled anyway. Just a bit of hairspray will be good enough for the errands, and then I will curl it before going to the studio tonight.
Have a great day....

Enough Already!!
Sunday, April 15, 2007
You can sure tell that Dad is out of town! No sooner did he leave, than the van wouldn't start properly, and I lost a crown on my tooth. Of course, just as we were walking out the door to competition. So, I had to stop and call the dentist who of course is out of town at some dental convention, and wait for him to call me back. So for the entire weekend, I have been holding my crown on with vaseline petroleum jelly, and eating on just one side of my mouth!! Tremendous!!
Dad made me map to get to competition, but I still managed to get lost, and then on the way home, they closed the highway, so I still ended up managing on my own! Today, Cooper is on the couch dizzy, so who knows how the next two weeks will go.
Dad made it to Capri, Italy, but his suitcase didn't. He is there with the clothes on his back, and not a lot of hope of getting his bag where he is. It seems that there is not an airport on the island, so everything has to come by boat, than by tram up the mountain, and bus to where Dad is. By the time his underware catches up with him, he may be in Norway! He isn't happy and neither was the other man traveling with Dad.
Sister Brown got some shocking news last weekend while I was in Provo. Her 4 year old has liver cancer. His liver is twice the size it should be, and the tumor is as big as his liver should be. They have to do chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before they can remove it. Liver cancer is very dangerous, and the chemo could cause his kidneys to fail, or make him deaf. Neither are great options, but the alternative is worse. She has asked me to go and sit with her while they do his first chemo this next Friday. Now just what do you say to your friend who is sitting there watching them poison her son? When I took dinner over there on Friday, she just clung to me and just sobbed! Friday is going to be a VERY STRESSFUL DAY! Who knows what will happen, Dad is still going to be out of town.

Sorry, I went to bed...but I am back now. Just talked to Dad, he said they really can't find his luggage. He went to buy some clothes, but didn't have much luck...did get some underware and a shirt. The other guy doesn't have his luggage yet either. If it doesn't catch up with him before he leaves Italy, he probably won't get it for the entire two weeks....he is not happy.
Must get ready for work....more later

The punches just keep coming.....today Cymbre lost her retainer at school so the orthodontist has to make a new one. It's because the teacher refused to allow her to keep her box on her desk during the TAKS test. WHAT A STUPID EXCUSE!! So because the routine wasn't the same, the retainer ended up on a napkin at lunch and got thrown away. That teacher knew I was mad, so did the principal, and thankfully the orthodontist is making her a new one for a reduced fee.
Then I tried to get Dad on the phone in Italy, but he didn't leave the right number, and no name for his hotel. GREAT!!
Get to the dentist to have my crown reglued, and they tell me they think they have to redo the thing. However, when the dentist examined it, he decided it would be ok for a while so they just reglued me. He said it probably won't be long and it will have to be replaced.
And Dad is going to be gone another week and a half!!! I may not survive this trip! I am thinking he needs to take his big black cloud with him. I'm having worse luck than he is right now....I can hardly wait for tomorrow!
On Friday I have to go sit with Sister Brown while her 4 yr old gets his first chemo....I'm so lucky don't you think?
I have no energy to write something funny....I am just taking my high blood pressure, and my cough and going to bed.
Love you.

Another Wedding
Monday, April 9, 2007
Well, after being in Provo planning a wedding with the Bride and Groom To Be, I came home and went to bed. Alseep by 8:45 - 9:00pm and awake again at 6:30am. See what you kids do to your mother! And, my cough is back! :( I got a bit of a rest from it in Provo, but it is back. BUMMER!!
Well, we went to the Bridal shop in Provo, and after looking through the racks of dresses, we chose 7 to try on. We got a consultant, and then started the process of dressing the Bride. Did you know that you have to have about 7 layers under a wedding dress? Boy things have changed since I got married. Those dresses sometimes have a mind of their own poufing out wherever they want to pouf, and dragging the floor. I decided that Shyla needs some little tiny people under her dress to pouf her everytime she moves. Maybe we could hire Thumbelina! And petticoats have a mind of their own, you just get them all straight, and then you have to crawl back under the dress and fight the tulle wars all over again....and speaking of tulle wars...I thought I was done with those for a while, but rumor has it that a certain mother of the bride was seen in several fabric stores buying some more of the stuff. What has possessed me???
Several spools of thread report that pink polka-dots are also on the shopping list, and will hopefully be on the shipping list soon. Special orders relayed that the JoAnn delivery truck will shortly be delivering several bolts of pink polka-dot fabric to the store. Now if those little computers could just come up with some chocolate tulle, this mother of the bride might actually be able to stay home and get started on altering some dresses, and making some others.
The ribbon rack at Hobby Lobby is a little slimmer tonight. Several spools of pink gingham ribbon called this editor to report that some crazy person is buying all the pink and brown with polka-dot ribbon on the shelf. It seems this woman was seen balancing 4 boxes of silk rose petals and about 8 spools of ribbon. What was really funny, states the ribbon rack, was when the woman dropped one spool of ribbon and then bent down to pick it up, and then all the spools went rolling away and the rose petals spilt all over the floor! THAT WAS JUST SO MUCH FUN!
Cake knives located on the top shelf tell us that it was pretty funny to watch the mother round up all the spools of ribbon and stuff them in her purse. Where are the security guards when you need them? Why didn't she get a shopping cart to begin with? That's the burning question in our minds. However, once rounded up and piled neatly, the woman walked to the check out stand, where a young man who didn't know what he was doing checked her out. When he was done, the woman told him he had given her everything for 50% off, but was only supposed to do the ribbon half off. He didn't seem impressed, but just kept bagging everything. So, the woman went home only paying 50% of everything she bought. Guess we can afford those rose petals after all!
Cooper and Cymbre are celebrating tonight because they get to dance their solos adjunicated on Saturday, but still qualify for the overall awards on Sunday. Guess the Hall of Fame people really do understand about Mormons. We just found out tonight. GREAT! Just what I want to do, sit at the competition all day and night! Should get some great pictures though.
It was fun meeting our new son-in-law to be over the past few days. He is very tall, but you can see that he loves Shyla. We had a great time getting things done for the wedding, and we even tried to get into the jewelry store after it was closed. Thank goodness, no one called the police on us! I must admit, Russ looks pretty good in that tux he rented, but Dad still gets my vote. Sorry Shyla, mines better!
Speaking of Dad, I think I will go to bed...:)!
Those of you who still have homework to do...get on it! Just a few more days, then you get a break. Those of you who belong to me, remember that Dad and I love you. (That means Russ and Holly too!)
Good luck on those finals, and remember to talk to your Heavenly Father.
Love you.
Mom
PS. Russ--take care of that daughter of mine...make sure she eats and gets enough sleep. The days are going to be really busy soon. And remember, she is one of my most prized possessions.

What Ironing Pile?
Sunday, April 1, 2007
We have enjoyed listening to the General Conference, and especially the talks given by the Prophet. He still has his sense of humor even though he is very old.
Around the old homestead (yes, we have homestead papers on file) things have been rollin' along but not quite as usual. Ya'll come see us soon!
Saturday we took the little tappers in our family to the Dance Competition. Another all day experience, but a good one for Cooper. Her ensemble girls decided that because Cooper doesn't dance on Sunday, they would all come and dance adjunicated on Saturday. That meant they all had to come in at a special time, and dance only for category awards. They could not compete for the overall awards. However, it was nice for Cooper that they supported her in that manner. They took home a platinum, so I guess Heavenly Father supported her too. Cooper also was the understudy for her friend who broke her foot. She learned the dance in 8 minutes at one rehearsal, and then competed on Saturday. As we sat there watching her, Dad said, "That kid needs to quit school and just dance!" She has unbelieveable talent in dance. What a blessing she is to the family.
Cymbre on the other hand did not get to dance any of her dances this time. Oh well, she played with her friends and watched Cooper. Hopefully everything for her won't be on Sunday the next competition.
Today we tried to use the organization of the sewing room to create some goodies for our Bride and Groom. However, we have decided that the Groom-to-be has very big feet (Cymbre says they are like Caleb!) We managed to find everything we needed in the sewing room, and even managed to put it away with minimal trouble, so that's VERY GOOD news. All my time the last three weeks is already paying off.
Cooper and Dad made a spindle for her speech tomorrow. She has to be a princess and tell her story, so she chose Sleeping Beauty, therefore, the spindle. She is using Cymbre's Princess Aurora tiara from competition at peril of her life if she breaks or loses it!
Cymbre is starting a poetry unit at school....can't wait to read all those Rhino poems!
Cymbre and I went flower shopping on Friday.....we are planting them outside, and it was time for her to get her tomato plants in the ground. While we were there, we saw the popcorn trees we used to have in Bartlesville. We fought our way through the foliage, and found the perfect popcorn tree to come home with us. (Of course, it wouldn't fit standing up in the van!) So, we stuffed it in laying down over the back seat, with the Bald Cypress tree we also bought, and I had Cymbre sit between them on the floor and hold the buckets. Now this was VERY exciting to Cymbre because she never gets to ride in the car without her seatbelt. Oh the EXCITEMENT!
She could hardly contain her self until the first turn when the buckets tried to smash her. Then she got laughing so hard she wasn't ready for the second turn, and they tried to smash her the other direction. We finally made it home after going to the school to get Cooper. Now, everything is planted, and the backyard has all the pretty flowers I like to have to look at from the kitchen window. Dad had to vacumn out the back of the van, but we had some fun buying the trees.
Can anyone believe that we have the scrapbook room and most of the sewing room all cleaned up??? I am in constant amazement! Those fisty scissors, pins, and measuring tapes have finally agreed to live peacefully together in the top sewing machine drawer! Miracles will never cease!
We are gearing up for the wedding plans. Several wedding planning books jumped off the shelf at Barnes and Nobles bookstore to come home with me. I've decided that if you read them, you quickly decide that to send money for the Bride and Groom to elope sounds like the best option overall! However, since I am the mother of the Bride, I will try to suck it up, and muddle through my drugged conscience and plan this wedding.
We all really enjoyed talking to the Groom, otherwise, known as Russell these last few days. The little girls even made up big brother rules for him. They are now anxiously waiting to see if he remembers them.
This next week will bring some confusion as I haven't quite decided how I will run two dance studios from Utah while planning a wedding... has anyone got a clue? Dad got me a hotel room, I think he doesn't think I will be getting much sleep, but may need a quite place to have my nervous breakdown! I am not good at nervous breakdowns when Dad isn't with me...where will I get a hug?
This week I think I will try to tackle some of the ironing piled up in the rocking chair. Maybe that chair needs a break, it has been holding quite a load for months now. I am testing the theories of balance and tower building...however, my tower gets much narrower at the top, and then has patches of wideness and narrowness all the way down to the bottom. Did you know that 3 of Dad's white shirts equal the same amount of space as two of my skirts? If you pull out a piece in the middle REALLY fast, you can get it without toppling the entire tower. How interesting is that? And those Christmas blouses with the snowmen on them...my goodness they can set up a ruckus when it starts to heat up outside. They were murmuring something about puddles and melting and possible floods the other day as I was walking by the rocking chair! At the first sign of moisture, I'm putting a bucket under that chair! Does anyone know how to get in touch with Noah? I may need his ark! I may need someone with turkey catching experience to get the tablecloth for Thanksgiving under control. Those turkeys already said they won't go on an ark...something about smelly rhinos. And Britni's pandas refuse to be around Cooper's Lucky Dogs. Now see why I need the ark, I think it has separate bedrooms right? Maybe I will just put Shyla's pachyderms in charge!! (I know, I'm good!) You will be able to find Dad and I on the lifeboat floating at a leisurely pace behind all the confusion and the kids. Britni better remember to bring the bamboo, or her Panda's will be quite unruly. Caleb and Holly will be in charge of Christmas, since Holly is always in season. Russ and Shyla will be in charge of the charging pachyderms, and Cooper and Cymbre can provide the entertainment. Dad and I will be out of touch! We will be eating cheese and crackers, and almonds for Dad cholesterol., and blissfully floating along. What a life! Better remember the sunscreen for Dad's bald spot!
And who really knows what lives at the bottom of the ironing pile? Has anyone seen the bottom of the pile in forever? It could be something really interesting like last year's Easter tablecloth, or maybe Mom's blouse I thought was lost, or Dad's worn out white shirt...you know the one without all the buttons. I could have a heart attack if I get to the bottom. Who would want to use a rocking chair for rocking? Isn't it better for holding ironing? If I get to the bottom and there is a family of lizards living there, I promise I will never do the ironing again! Lizards seem to love to live in stuff inside our house.
Well, enough of this foolishness for tonight...must get some things organized for my shopping trip tomorrow. First on the list is Groom stuff for our project. Then on to the grocery store to replenish my supply of expired eggs. Then to Walmart for some stuff, and then lunch before I pick up the CoopDog from school. Then homework, and meet Cymbre at the bus, and then the dance studio thing. Oh joy! We get to label the competition ribbons for each dance.
You kids who are reading this and laughing, I'm glad I could provide you with some entertainment. Remember what you heard at Conference today, and make sure you are standing on the Lord"s side of the line. Your parents expect nothing less of you. Also remember that we all love you very much, yes, each and every one of you. So does your Heavenly Father. Remember to talk to Him today.
Love,
Mom

Then homework, and meet Cymbre at the bus, and then the dance studio thing. Oh joy! We get to label the competition ribbons for each dance.
You kids who are reading this and laughing, I'm glad I could provide you with some entertainment. Remember what you heard at Conference today, and make sure you are standing on the Lord"s side of the line. Your parents expect nothing less of you. Also remember that we all love you very much, yes, each and every one of you. So does your Heavenly Father. Remember to talk to Him today.
Love,
Mom
